We have designed our programme of activities, including workshops, groups and courses, in response to the concerns raised by people who have been affected by cancer.

These activities aim to support you at any stage of your care pathway – from diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. We believe that with access to the right support and information you will be better able to cope with the impact of cancer and its treatment on your life. 

The activities take place in the Macmillan Support and Information Service located on the ground floor of the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre.

The creative writing sessions are run by a volunteer and one of our support and information specialists. The sessions are an opportunity to put your thoughts on paper and share them, if you like, with other people who understand what you may be going through.

You don’t need to have any previous experience or knowledge of creative writing.

Everyone is welcome: patients with cancer or blood conditions and their family members, carers and friends.

The group meets online on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 4.30 to 6.30pm.

Our Health and Wellbeing Event is for patients who have recently completed their cancer treatment, or for those having ongoing (maintenance) treatment.

The day includes:

    • A range of workshops, run by healthcare professionals, on fatigue, sleep, physical activity, healthy eating and relaxation
    • A chance to speak to others and share experiences.

Here are some with advice to manage your health and wellbeing during and after cancer treatment.

HOPE is a six-week self-management course that aims to help you cope with the day-to-day emotional and practical impact of cancer after treatment. It provides the opportunity to:

    • Refocus on your inner strengths
    • Apply goal-setting tools to build confidence
    • Increase your resilience with the support of others.

Expert advice on skin care and make-up for those who have had or are about to have cancer treatment. Check our wellbeing programme for dates of the next workshops.

Do you have low energy? Do you struggle with chores and tasks that you were more able to do before having cancer treatment? Do you find it difficult to concentrate or keep your focus?

This workshop will explore theory, practical tips and ideas on managing fatigue and improving the energy you have.

Do you find it difficult to fall asleep? Or maybe you wake up in the night or wake up too early?

If you are having sleep problems, this workshop will give you some tips and techniques to help you overcome them.

Are you in work, thinking about returning to work or looking for a new job since you were diagnosed with cancer?

Would you like information about work-related financial support?

This workshop will give you practical information and advice concerning any work-related issues you may be facing and financial support you may be entitled to. It is open to everyone affected by cancer, including families, carers and friends.

Our yoga sessions aim to refresh your mind, body and spirit. The classes focus on gentle yoga movements and relaxation, and are suitable for everybody.
