Counselling provides a safe space to explore your private thoughts and feelings skillfully. We believe that it can help you see the situation more clearly, become more able to let go of ideas and patterns no longer serving you, feel ready to re-set your priorities, open up to new ways of coping, and experiment with a wider range of solutions.

Most late cancellations go to waste. Whilst we respectfully ask that you plan your attendance carefully before taking up an appointment, we also understand that there are unavoidable circumstances that make it impossible for you to attend. Here’s how you can help:
- Cancelling an appointment: It is fine to change your mind. Simply call the outpatient team on 020 3447 9411 to cancel as soon you know. If you cancel without re-booking we will assume that you do not wish to attend and will not burden you with further contact. However you can be re-referred any time.
- Changing an appointment: Call the outpatient team to cancel and re-book with as much notice as feasible to up the chance of the appointment being used by someone.

No service is a catch-all. The counsellor is here to help you address the psychosocial problems related to your care episode at the RMU. It is not a standalone mental health clinic.
If you are experiencing significant psychological difficulties or have had similar problems in the past, it is important to get help for these, whether or not you choose to have counselling with us. Effective psychological treatments exist in the NHS and the private sector. Be sure to talk to your GP, who can advise you about availabilities in your area. The counsellor here would be pleased to discuss options with you and/or write to your GP and/or other psychosocial care providers to help ensure that you are given appropriate assistance for your situation.
